3 Things I Learned During My First Year of Blogging

I can’t believe that a whole year has passed since starting the Life on a Dot blog! I am so thankful for everyone who has been a part of this whirlwind with me so far. The journey has had its ups and downs, from being featured on some awesome blogs to letting my perfectionism get the best of me. Here’s a few things I’ve learned along the way…

If you know me you know that I get REALLY excited about all the things. Seriously, an exclamation point is this gals best friend! But, sometimes my mind runs wild with ideas which is both a blessing and a curse. I have a way of stressing myself out over things that haven’t even happened yet. I’ll scroll through Instagram comparing myself to other amazing bloggers and boss babes wondering what I am doing wrong. Why don’t have as many followers, likes and subscribers? My busy mind has already put in the years of hard work, stress and dedication before I even had the chance to enjoy the excitement of a fresh beginning or trial and errors. Everyone has to start somewhere and my somewhere is here! It is as simple as taking a deep breath and enjoying your OWN journey with a happy heart.

Up until recently my blogging process went something like this:

After a few months I realized my “wingin’ it” approach to blogging wasn’t exactly working. I spent a lot of time in front of the computer trying to craft the perfect post to match my outfits vs. writing about what I truly wanted to. Without a plan it was easy to drop the ball when my life got a little busy. After taking some time away from blogging to regroup, I got myself a Ban.do planner! I started brainstorming post ideas for each month and plugged those ideas into the calendar section. Keep your eyes peeled, Life on a Dot won’t just be about outfits anymore! I’ll be giving peeks into my life, sharing my favorites businesses, music and even creating some DIY tutorials. I am really excited to step out of the fashion blogger box and write about the things that make me happiest!

Starting a blog is a lot of fun, but also a lot of stress. Just remember that it isn’t about being perfect, it is about being unabashedly yourself! It is about doing what makes you happy and sharing that happiness with whoever is willing to read it. It is about building each other up, collaborating and making connections. It is about self-expression and self-love. This may be something that you do as a hobby or you’re paving the way to entrepreneurship, but whatever the reason is remember to enjoy the ride.
