One thing that I love about returning home from a vacation is that little reminder that sticks with you to get out and play. Literally, I mean play. Get out of the house, let go, bliss out, do something that makes you feel good, laugh, and look like an idiot.
I am one of those lucky people who get to work from a home office. However, sometimes when the work day is done it is so easy to just curl up on the couch, have a beer, and drown myself in Seinfeld reruns. I’d be liar if I said that I haven’t had days where I woke up, worked all day in my pajamas, and then changed into a different pair of pajamas before heading to bed. While sometimes these kind of days are a beautiful thing, I feel like as an adult it’s easy to accept this as the norm. I’m not getting any younger, so I might as well sit and grumble about how I feel old, how my knees crack when I dance, and that being an adult means staying in almost every weekend. You’re only as old as you feel and sometimes I feel like I am too young to feel this old.
A few weeks ago my bestie, Lindsey, took me out for my first ever karaoke experience at the Double Wide Grill
on Pittsburgh’s South Side. I was sure on our way there that I was too old, too shy, too embarrassed to do karaoke. I insisted I’d just be a fantastic super fan for her whenever she would sing. Well, four tequila shots later you could find me singing Blister in the Sun alongside my best friend, out of tune and without a care. Guess what, it was fun. I played. I did something that made me feel good (with the assistance of tequila, but hey it’s start).
My question to you is what was the last thing you did FOR FUN? Because YOU wanted to, because it made you FEEL GOOD? For me, I tried to do some cartwheels in the park during this photoshoot. I am not as graceful as I used to be and there may be some deleted crotch shots, but hey, it was fun.
I challenge you this week to get out there and play. Play like you’re on vacation during your day to day life! Feel free to report back with your experiences, I’d love to hear ’em.
